Coupland 3 is a Grade II-listed building located on the rear quadrangle of the historical cluster of University buildings. It was the original home of Manchester Medical School but was vacant for some time.
The development has been largely designed to be open plan with plenty of natural daylight. The work presented an opportunity to restore some of the buildings fantastic original features.
The refurbished building is home to the School of Law, the School of Dentistry, and Faculty of Humanities and the Directorate for the Student Experience.
Ferco was engaged to replace seating in two busy lecture theatres, with the brief being to efficiently utilise the existing structure and layout to minimise disruption to the historically significant interior.
A key aim for the upgrading and alteration of the buildings is to use minimal interventions to create usable and sustainable spaces for current and medium-term educational trends.
Practical and stylish, the Athena provides durable tip-up seating coupled with continuous fixed-desking.
The seats are sprung for maximum comfort and have practical zip-off covers to extend the lifetime of the upholstery.
