Winchester College was founded in 1324 by William of Wykeham, a recognised architect with powerful employers, including the then King of England.
A world renowned independent school with 700 students enrolled, Winchester College is located in historic Winchester, Hampshire. The College boasts both ancient and modern buildings and is a striking sight in the area.
The College estate team were looking to replace loose seating and bring a more modern and comfortable aesthetic to the existing lecture theatre situated in a Chemistry Laboratory within the science block.
The Chemistry lab is a relatively small room which is well utilised by students of all ages. The existing stepped structure was to remain as were the natural wooden desks already in situ.
The client brief determined that new seating needed to be hard wearing, comfortable and able to fit into the constraints of the existing room whilst conforming to technical standards recommendations.
During the design process Ferco shared visualisations with the College and advice and samples regarding suitable upholstery which confirms to BS 5852.
The ARC One seat was perfect for this refurbishment - ergonomically designed with the option of reinforced plastic seat back and under-pan for toughness.
It has a proven pedigree for robust, virtually maintenance free performance even in the most demanding environments, having been installed in several military facilities and Saracens Rugby FC.
In common with all Ferco seats, the ARC One has no finger traps due to its award winning safety feature - the enclosed pivot.
