The Sapphire Ice and Leisure is named after the sapphire reign of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-ever serving British monarch and the first to celebrate a sapphire jubilee.

Romford's premier ice skating and leisure facility, offers a fantastic range of activities. At the forefront is a full-sized ice rink that, as well as being open to the public, is also home to the London Raiders ice hockey team. Other facilities include a state-of-the-art gym, two swimming pools and dance studios, as well as cafes and retail units.

Designed by Architects Saunders Boston, the rink has the capacity for 1200 skaters. One of only three such designs nationwide, it features the ice rink on top of a number of other leisure facilities.

Suspended above the swimming pool on the ground floor, without the need for internal columns, the construction features extensive steelwork to create a robust and stable structure. The contractors Willmott Dixon cleverly overcame the temperature differentiation required for both facilities, with the ice rink needing to be kept at a chilly -5 ºC, whilst the swimming pool area is heated to 30ºC, with 80% humidity.

Ferco installed 900 spectator seats for fans to enjoy top class ice hockey and over 200 seats in the swimming pool area.

The ARC Lite seat was chosen. The seat is fit for purpose for use in these two different environments. Manufactured using blow-moulded co-polymer, the seat is durable and resistant to moisture or extremes of temperature.

It has a slim profile and a double-walled seat and backrest. The ARC Lite can be floor or riser mounted and can be matched to any RAL colour. Sapphire Ice and Leisure chose four complementary colours for their seating installation.
