The Picture House Cinema & Restaurant is a prime example of an independent, boutique UK venue. Built in 1916 in a half-timbered Tudor style, the building was originally used as a Garrison Theatre for local troops. In 1920 it was renamed The Picture House and has been used as a cinema ever since.
In the last 100 years, The Picture House has been developed from a single screening room to a twin screen venue in 1993, and then further improved as a 3-screen cinema in the year 2000. The latest step in The Picture House's journey was to open The Lounge in 2020. This smaller, VIP room opened with showings of James Bond's Skyfall followed by a recut version of The Godfather Part III, which went down well with the film-loving clientele.
