Largely financed through crowdfunding organised by their Supporter's Parliament, Shrewsbury Town became the first club in England to install rail seats in summer 2018.
Following detailed talks and planning with the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) and Shropshire Council's Safety Advisory Group (SAG), work to install Ferco's RailSeat One was completed in little over a week during the close season break.
Ferco had by 2018 already currently installed nearly 17,000 units of the RailSeat One at football grounds all over Europe.
The Shrewsbury Town installation added a further 555, which were fitted at the rear of the Salop Leisure South Stand. The Montgomery Waters Meadow thus became the first football ground in the country to have a safe standing area created within an all-seater stadium.
Developed as a way to allow fans to stand safely at domestic club matches and be seated at international and European matches, Ferco's RailSeat One is an innovative and practical design. Slim-line and compact, this unique stadium seat has been approved for use in safe standing areas by both UEFA and FIFA.
Each seat is incorporated within a robust metal frame, and the high-strength rail acts as a protective barrier that makes pushing or falling forward physically impossible.
All over the world the RailSeat One is providing the solution to the issue of fans standing in areas which are designed to be fully seated, whilst ensuring maximum safety and complying with UEFA/FIFA requirements.
The design of the RailSeat One allows stadium staff to easily lock or unlock the seat where required and permitted by local regulations, while remaining tamperproof to those without the necessary specialist key. Each model is robust, comfortable and specifically designed for use in the liveliest areas of football stadia. Like all of our products, the RailSeat One is virtually maintenance free.
In addition to the RailSeat One, Ferco also fitted one row of the RailSeat ARC Lite at Shrewsbury. Incorporating the ergonomically styled, self-tipping ARC Lite seat and sloping backrest, it creates the perfect dividing line in the stand between rear standing area and front seating section. All the seats, both the all-steel one to the rear and blow-moulded polypropylene ones at the front, are inthe club's distinctive amber colour, boldly distinguishing the new are from the existing blue seats in front of it.
Ferco were delighted to be invited to attend the official launch of the safe standing area ahead of the club's first league match of the 2018/19 season on the 4th of August 2018.
