Kilmarnock Football Club, commonly known as Killie, is the
oldest club in the Scottish Premiership and the oldest professional club in
Scotland.
The club has been playing their matches at Rugby Park since
1899, with a capacity of 17,889.
The club wished fans to experience live Premiership football
in safe standing sections of the ground. The £40,000 project, championed by
Trust in Killie and Billy Bowie, has led to 324 RailSeats being placed in two
areas of the stadium.
The safe standing areas are situated in the East Stand (with
158 adult rail seats) as well as a 166-seat section in the Moffat Family Stand,
allowing families and younger supporters to get a taste of this passionate
element of football culture.
The clubs aim is to create an area where older children can socialise and stand with their friends, whilst still being in sight of their parents, encouraging a relationship with the club that will continue into adulthood.
Slim-line and compact, this unique stadium seat has been
approved for use by both UEFA and FIFA for Champions League and World Cup
Matches. Ferco's RailSeat is code compliant for both height and strength and
folds flush between the uprights allowing up to a 750mm clearway. Constructed
from steel, the RailSeat is robust and durable.
Celtic became the first top-flight UK football club to
install the RailSeat in 2016 and Kilmarnock is the second Scottish team to do
so. Shrewsbury Town is the first club to install an area of RailSeat 1 in an
English club. To date Ferco has installed over 17,000 RailSeat's in stadiums
all over Europe.
Current UK legislation stipulates that teams in the Premier
League and the Championship must have all-seater stadiums. This policy is
currently under review having been subject to a parliamentary debate in June
2018 to allow safe standing areas to be installed in all UK football clubs. As
the market leader, Ferco would be interested in talking to any clubs who wish
to discuss the possibilities for Safe Standing and seats incorporating barriers
in their stadiums.
